In this project class, students will hand forge their own brute-du-forge Japanese Kiridashi. A Kiridashi is a Japanese hand-forged utility knife regularly used for woodworking, bamboo crafting, whittling, marking, deburring, pencil sharpening, paper cutting, leathercrafting, etc. Brute-du-forge refers to the finish being as forged, and outside a clean-up of the edge, the blade will have a forge finish.Perfect for the beginner, the amateur wood worker, and the pro, this class will focus on all aspects of the forging process, along with how to harden and temper your rough forged blank.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Joshua Fikentscher (aka Forge Pirate, aka FishKisser, aka Josh) has been forging knives since 2011, a former president of the Blacksmith's Guild of the Potomac, and was featured on Forged in Fire, Season 4 Episode 18, the Yatagan. As a certified Geek, seven days a week, you can find him just about anywhere in the labs, be it turning a bowl, using the lasers, or even building cardboard boats.
PREREQUISITES: You MUST have taken the Blacksmithing 101 safety sign-off class to take this project class!
It is highly recommended that you have attended a few of the Blacksmithing Practice Sessions (aka Open Office Hours (OOH)) and that you are comfortable with the basic blacksmithing tools.
Age 16 and over. Any person aged 16 or 17 must have a parent remain on the premises in case of emergency.
SAFETY:
· Must wear cotton or wool clothing – no synthetic materials.
· Shoes must be made from leather or canvas; plastic-topped sneakers will not be allowed
· Eye protection (goggles) are provided, but you may bring your own for the best fit.
· Failure to wear appropriate clothing may result in being turned away from the class without a refund.
