MS: Visual Arts Studio Fall 2021 (Cancelled)

Makerschool students will experience a diverse, hands-on educational journey. We believe all children are makers and we believe makers are people who collaborate with others, have the courage to try new things, communicate their ideas, and create a better world around them. In addition to core academic subjects our pods offer students everyday opportunities to explore, ask questions, and create solutions.  

Visual Arts Studio with Jalene Galena 

The Nova Labs Workforce Development program focuses on developing the skill sets most needed by manufacturing, trade, and technical careers in today’s economy.  This live and in-person program teaches students safe work practices and quality craftsmanship while students learn to develop and read technical drawings, create a portfolio of their work, and write resumes.  Students will get a foundational experience in using CAD and CAM software to design projects while simultaneously learning woodworking, metalworking, laser cutting, and CNC disciplines, thus allowing them to explore careers in a variety of industries.  Get connected to the largest group of makers, craftspeople, and industry professionals in Northern Virginia!

This hands-on studio experience will introduce students to the arts through principles of design and technique. From pencils to paint, stained glass, metal and more, students will leave the digital world behind and work on fine tuning hand-eye coordination, turning up their creativity and gaining control over these core mediums. Projects and instruction will be at an advanced level, but younger students with an aptitude for the arts are welcome.

Course Fee:  $650 per semester, $1,300 per year

Maximum: 6 students
