BL_S: 2x72" Belt Grinder Sign Off

This class teaches the basic techniques and safety practices needed to begin making your own tools and knives on the Nova Labs 2" x 72" belt grinder, and provides a signoff if you demonstrate a solid understanding of tool operation and safety practices during the class.

Our 72 inch grinder has a 2 inch belt and is specifically designed for precision grinding tools and knives. It gives you a lot of freehand grinding surfaces that get into corners and curves of your piece. If you know a few simple techniques, it is safe, efficient, and a joy to use but there are some serious risks involved so a signoff is required to use the tool.

Prerequisite: Nova Labs Green Orientation.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this class is being offered ONLY to current Nova Labs members. You MUST provide your own goggles and respirator or mask!

Minors under 16 may NOT take the class.

Minors 16-17: May take the class, but parents must remain in the lab and available in case needed or in an emergency.

SAFETY: Must wear leather shoes and non-synthetic clothes (synthetics will melt and can stick to your skin). Eye protection (goggles) is required.  A dust mask or respirator is required. If you are not fully vaccinated from COVID-19, then masks are required at all times in the lab. Failure to do so may result in being turned away from the class without a refund.

We reserve the right to ask any participant to leave if we feel they are compromising safety or disturbing the class.

The 2x72 Belt Grinder is a RED tool, and the signoff is required to use the tool independently.
