CS_P: Create a Custom Digital Head Model

There are many ways to get a highly accurate scan of your head. This is not one of them.

This way makes a pretty close head scan using just a cell phone camera, a foam core stick painted black and white and a CAD package. It’s quick, easy and surprisingly fun. The model can be used to design cosplay helmets, hats and other headgear. Or you can use it to create a physical head form using the 3D printers or the ShopSabre. It can also be used as a starting point for digitally sculpting a more detailed version of your head.

This class will provide the foam core stick and step-by-step instructions for turning the pictures into the digital model. You provide a cell phone, a laptop loaded with Fusion 360 (free version for makers available) and, of course, your head.

Important – The process requires full face and profile pictures which clearly show the contours of your skull. If you have long or voluminous hair, bring some way to tie it back or slick it down.
