The Prusa XL is an advanced multi-material printer. This is NOT a good machine to start your 3D printing journey. All attendees MUST have succesfully completed FDM 101 and must have a Nova Labs FDM signoff, and SHOULD have many, many hours of printing experience. Ideally, an attendedee will also have experience troubleshooting and solving some typical FDM printing problems. Attendence at the class is at the complete discretion of the instructor. Failure to satisfy these requirements may be result in an attendee registrant being asked to leave the class without refund.
Prior to the class it is strongly recommended that attendees review the Nova Labs Prusa XL wiki page https://www.notion.so/novalabs/Prusa-XL-5-Tool-d42b35eb267c410ea2e0dea27d1673cc as well as downloading and reviewing the Prusa XL handbook (https://help.prusa3d.com/downloads/xl/handbook).
Reviewing these Prusa XL guides can provide a great leg-up on operating the machine. It will also be extreme helpful to review the Nova Labs Prusa slideshow before class. The slideshow will likely also be reviewed in class. Afterall, 'repitition is knowledge.'
The class will run through some of the key differences in operating the Prusa XL vs the rest of our fleet (and possibly the rest of the 3d universe). But given the size/complexity of the Prusa XL, self-study will be needed for successfully designing and slicing designs on the Prusa XL. A solid working knowledge of 3d printers is strongly recommended for anyone looking to complete the signoff requirements on the Prusa XL device.
Printer XL signoffs are not automatic. It is not enough to attend the class: In the class, an attendee will be taught how to perform basic mechanics--e.g., change filament, manually dock heads etc., but will not be cleared to independantly operate the Prusa XL.
An attendee will need to coordinate to meet with a 3d printer Steward during 3D printing office hours (which are generally every Monday night) with an object they have sliced themselves. The sliced object should reflect utilizing the XL's MMU. The attendee, under Steward supervision, will then setup the filament on the Prusa XL appropriate for their sliced design.
Only after showing proficiency on the Prusa XL operation, the attendee, at the discretion of the Steward, can be signed off for unsupervised use of the Prusa XL.
I know this all sounds boring, but this really is an incredible machine, and we all look forward to seeing what cool stuff you make with it.
Sign off: FDM Prusa XL 3d printer after completion of course requirements at the discretion of Instructor.
