AC_P06: Sew Your Own T-Shirt

There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of sewing a garment from start to finish. In this class, you'll use the serger to build a complete t-shirt, focusing on the techniques that make knit garments look and behave like ready-to-wear. We'll cover using a 4-thread overlock stitch for seam construction, handling stretch knit fabric, and options for finishing your hems and neckline. Note that a standard commercial cover-stitch finish is not included in this class. Students interested in that finish can sign up for the separate cover-stitch class, or complete that step on their own time if they've already been signed off on the machine.

Because we'll be moving at a construction pace, previous serger experience is recommended. If you're still getting comfortable with the machine, consider starting with a serger foundations class.

Fabric and thread are included with registration, but please contact the instructor with your t-shirt size before class so your pieces can be ready to go when you arrive.

• Prerequisites: Domestic sewing machine and serger proficiency. If unfamiliar with using a serger, please seek instruction during office hours, take Intro to Sergers, and/or a sergers foundations project class covering 4 thread overlock seams. 
• Age Requirement: 16+ (minors must be accompanied by adult guardian at all times)

Danielle Priest

With nearly two decades as an educator under her belt, it's clear Danielle loves teaching. She's shared her expertise through workshops on everything from beginner sewing to operating specialty machines, pattern drafting, textile selection, and intricate embroidery techniques. But Danielle's true creative joy lies in bringing beloved Star Wars characters to life through meticulously crafted costumes. She's competed across the country, always challenging herself to top her previous creations. And just when you think she can't possibly cram more onto her list, she'll invariably get distracted by a new galactic passion project.

This class must have two students to run. If the class is cancelled due to lack of attendance you will be issued a full refund. 

Per Nova Labs policy, there is no refund if the student is non-compliant with the safety dress requirement or more than 15 minutes late for class.
