MW_S09: TIG Welding Sign-off

Ready to build your metalworking skills? This class introduces the core techniques of Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding and provides the sign-off needed to use the TIG welder in the Metalworking Shop.

Sign-off: TIG Welder

Safety and dress code: Wear natural-fiber clothing, such as cotton or wool, and closed-toe shoes, preferably made from natural materials. Tie back long hair. Long pants and respiratory protection are strongly recommended.

The instructor recommends either the 3M Rugged Comfort Quick Latch Half Facepiece Respirator 6501QL with 3M 2297 filters, or the Miller LPR-100. Respirators come in different sizes and must fit properly to be effective.

Independent-use requirement: You may take this class before completing the Metal Shop Basic Tools Sign-off. However, you must complete both sign-offs before using the TIG welder independently. Until then, you are welcome to practice under supervision at Metal Shop Mondays.

Arrival policy: Arriving more than 15 minutes late is a safety violation. Late arrivals will not receive a refund.
