This class is hands-on and introduces wedging, centering, opening, pulling walls, and shaping. We will also cover proper posture at the wheel, a demonstration of hand positions, wheel care, and clean-up policies. Typically, the results will be pretty rough; don’t let that discourage you!
Every step is crucial for success so It’s hard to catch-up if you miss a step. Please arrive 10 minutes before the class begins.
Trimming will be covered as a brief demonstration. When your pots are ready to be trimmed, please come to any open office hours for assistance. For a more in-depth walkthrough on trimming, a class refresher, or help with other forms like bowls, pulling handles, etc., sign up for one or more beginner/intermediate class(es).
All members who do not already have ceramics signed off must complete this additional sign-off, regardless of prior experience, to gain independent access to the pottery wheels and studio space.
Materials: Everything you need for this class is provided.
Dress Code: Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit messy, tie long hair back and cut nails short before class. Optionally, bring an apron or a small towel.
