Ever wondered how to get a professional looking hem on your t-shirt? Come make your own and use the Juki Cover Stitch Machine to always get that stretchy, perfect hem!

In this hands-on class, you will use a cover stitch machine to hem your own t-shirt. Come discover the techniques and tricks to achieve the clean, stretchy hems and secure seams that give you a polished, professional finish when you work with knits. If you want to sew your own t-shirt to bring to this class, sign up for the Sew Your Own T-shirt Class the previous week.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Introduction to the Juki MCS-1500: Understanding how to operate the machine, thread the machine, and make tension adjustments for optimal performance.

  • Learn how to use the cover stitch machine to create 2 and 3 thread cover stitch hems.

  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Learn to address common issues like skipped stitches and maintain the machine for longevity.

Learn these skills through a practical project and then transfer them to leggings, sportswear, dresses, and more.
  • Sign Off: Juki MCS 1500 Cover Stitch Machine
  • Age Limit: 16+ (Minors must be accompanied by adult guardian)
  • Safety Dress Requirements: N/A
  • Prerequisites: Domestic sewing machine and serger proficiency. If unfamiliar with using a serger, please seek instruction during office hours, take Intro to Sergers, and/or a project class covering 4 thread overlock seams. No prior experience with cover stitch machines is necessary.

What to Bring:

  • Glasses or eyewear needed for threading needles
  • T-shirt to hem (optional - if you constructed a t-shirt in the Sew a T-shirt Class or you can bring a t-shirt from home. If you don't have one, knit fabric will be available for practice.)

Meet your instructor: With nearly two decades as an educator under her belt, it's clear Danielle loves teaching. She's shared her expertise through workshops on everything from beginner sewing to operating specialty machines, pattern drafting, textile selection, and intricate embroidery techniques. But Danielle's true creative joy lies in bringing beloved Star Wars characters to life through meticulously crafted costumes. She's competed across the country, always challenging herself to top her previous creations, and invariably getting distracted by a new galactic passion project.
